TRUTH
And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
John 17:3
REFLECTION
I’m too busy playing in the mud of my life to realize there’s a path to freedom right in front of me.
For a long time in addiction, I held on to both the knowledge that I was headed for trouble and the conviction that I could change when I needed to.
Maybe this was true for a while. But we don’t usually have the motivation to change until we’re past the point of being able to.
I get quickly ensnared with the same trappings of the world that hamstring my spiritual journey today:
Self-centered desires for more stuff.
Pride-driven desires for prestige.
Slothful desires for more leisure.
Gluttonous desires for more pleasure.
Envious desires for more knowledge.
Short-sided desires for temporary slaves to external problems.
Greedy desires for just a little more.
Lustful desires for the very things I shouldn’t and can’t have.
Wrathful desires for vengeance, usually disguised as judgement deserved.
And no matter the flavor of the day, it’s wrapped in a warm blanket of justification.
I’ll lie to myself from dawn till dusk apart from God, and it’s only through His in-dwelling power that I glimpse moments of clarity.
It’s only by grace that I’m given power for the moment in front of me.
God, help me live this next moment in love and service.
