Good Danger

Eyes wide open

TRUTH

Who is the man who fears the Lord? Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose.

Psalm‬ ‭25‬:‭12

REFLECTION

Fear usually drives me away from things.

I am exposed as inadequate and I run from danger.

I am caught and I flee from retribution.

I am humiliated and I hide.

But the fear of God is more nuanced than that. It is a requirement to fully experience the mysteries and joys that come from relationship with Him.

This fear is of a wholly different magnitude. It does not bow before the temporal, fleeting frights of my timid heart.

It bonds itself to the inner workings of my soul and vibrates through me entirely.

This fear draws me further, though. It is all-encompassing but is meant to bind me to Him rather than repulse me from Him.

This is where the instructions that I’ve needed are revealed. I cannot run from the soul-bind that now echoes behind every thought and action. I cannot run, but I can choose to listen.

I’ve long wondered why He doesn’t speak audibly to us. I’ve prayed countless times for clarity. I think that I desire to know His plan for me that I may more eagerly follow it.

But behind most of my requests for the knowledge of His will is a subtle longing for my own comfort.

I want the clarity to be able to rest.

He calls us to rest in Him, though. Despite circumstance. Despite unease and discontent and uncertainty. The stirring of the Spirit may, and probably must, lead through hard times.

God, help me fear well and walk with your purpose.
