Real friends hurt with you

TRUTH
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?
Psalm 22:1
REFLECTION
Some of the godliest men and women have also experienced separation from the goodness of God.
It’s not an indictment to feel separate from God’s will (although it can be).
Rather, in times of sorrow or loneliness, in the hollow times when I want to be further along than I am, I can lean into the encouragement of others.
If I’m not getting encouraged by anyone, I should try to encourage someone else.
If I’m drawing a blank on how to do this, I should pick up my phone and send a quick text.
If I am clueless on where to start, all it takes is honesty.
An honest question of how someone is really doing. If it’s a believer—how can I pray with or for them?
We aren’t used to being honest with one another. It takes practice and willingness to seek the holy healing that comes through true companionship and fellowship.
God often works on me while I’m out working on something or someone else. The good work he desires to do in our hearts is accomplished when we stop fretting about our meager (or major) problems.
He is good enough to care for us. He is good enough to provide for us. He is good enough to be enough for us.
May I stop worrying so much about my own little plans and start pouring into my family’s and friends’ lives.
God, give me courage to be a real friend.
