TRUTH
He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.
Isaiah 40:29
REFLECTION
How many of my fears are justified? How many of my anxieties come true?
Don’t I usually live in a state of perpetual terror of my own thought-shadows when I begin to dwell on the things that could happen?
Yes, there are well founded fears in my life that crop up and cause stress. Yes, there are things I ought to be wary of.
But the crippling anxieties of the heart are the things I need to cast out.
Here’s the catch, though.
I can’t.
The issues big enough to cause real disruptions in my life require more power to remove than I have.
This is the ditch of despair that even the believer can find themselves stuck in. For years.
Belief is great. But reliance is next level.
Am I actually able to turn my will and life over to the care of God?
Is this evidenced by my actions and attitudes through the day?
And what about when the crap hits the fan? When I cannot remove the thoughts and anxieties that separate me from the illusive joy I see in others.
It’s not enough to check in with God for course-correcting advice periodically.
I have to walk toward Him and with Him daily. I’ve got to allow Him to do the heavy lifting in my heart. I cannot change my desires alone, but I can allow Him to do it for me.
God, turn my thinking inside-out.
