Acting the part

TRUTH

Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings.

Psalms‬ ‭63‬:‭7

REFLECTION

I never see the big picture till I’m not trying to see the big picture.

However, we have been given something of a cheat code with the Bible.

It’s chock full of invitations, supplications, examples and instructions.

There is no shortage of characters to identify with and emulate. And, thankfully, there’s only one who is perfect.

I can forget that the author of so many of the psalms was also a recovering adulterer and murderer.

I can shove those dark little bits to the background when I want to think of myself as undeserving or insignificant or whatever secretly selfish adjective, I may feel bound to that day.

The simple fact is that no one is innocent, but everyone is able to surrender.

Thank God that he is able to rescue us from wherever we have wandered. Thank God for renewed hope and restored sanity.

It doesn’t mean an absence of consequence. Those come with the territory. Sometimes swiftly and painfully.

But even there, I’m kept safe and whole in his shadow.

I must keep reminding myself of this—I’m an actor, not the director. This is his show, his world, his life. I have the great privilege of living it.

God, help me remember my lines.
