A Whole Lotta Hurt

TRUTH

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

Ezekiel‬ ‭36‬:‭26

REFLECTION

Rebirth is a real pain.

The change we want happens in an instant, without hassle and with all the benefits of a transformation we didn’t really have to work towards.

The change we are after requires a transplant without the sacrifice and the risk and the blood.

The change we wish for is exactly that: a wish.

It’s a phantom of an idea perpetuated by a culture that has managed to produce many such phenomena for us to wade through and choose from.

The issue is of course in the fleeting nature of any of these mechanized attempts to plug our spiritual rifts.

Rebirth is a real pain. It hurts a lot more than the alternative in the short run. But it opens the door to the infinite.

Most of us get to a point where we know we need to change or get help or both.

We just look for easier ways first. Ways that don’t require as much change. Ways that look comfortable.

We ignore the fact that we are irreparably broken and divided.

God wants to stitch us together, but we don’t get the anesthetic till after he’s done.

God, I don’t want to hurt but fix me anyway.
