Bracing
against good things

TRUTH
…so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.
Ephesians 3:17-18
REFLECTION
A lot of the time, I’m just not paying attention to the right things.
I spend time sifting through scriptures but rarely dwelling within them.
I toss up prayers regularly but rarely are they in earnest.
I tend to my spiritual wellbeing daily but rarely with the abandon of the obsessed.
Christ in my life requires Christ in my life, but I’m usually content to simply stay in touch as a pen pal.
I’m spiritually off kilter just enough for absolutely any stray thought to derail me enough to skim the scriptures or skimp on my prayers time or skip it altogether.
I think this gross misappropriation of my attention has less to do with me disbelieving anything true and more to do with me not letting the truth lead me away from stagnation.
I need power. I need power from Christ to be properly aware of the depths of His love and grace.
Too often I have looked for realization in and through my own reasoning.
But the source material is Christ. The well of inspiration is the grace already given. The perpetual machine of His mind is already within me, churning.
I need to stop bracing against these things and accept their life.
God, give me strength to comprehend you.
