TRUTH

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

REFLECTION

Emmett Fox wrote, “The trouble with most students is not that they do not change their thought but that they do not keep it changed.”

This explains relapse very concisely.

It’s quite easy to decide to get and stay sober while surrounded by folks who care about you telling of all the wonderful things that have happened in their lives since they got sober.

Of course I’ll do what they say. I want those things too. There’s no chance of me drinking or drugging ever again.

Immediately, I’ve attached what I want to the forefront of my motivation, I’ve begun the comparison game and taken their experience as my trophy, and I’ve begun speaking in absolutes instead of looking at what’s right in front of me.

I’ve got no chance unless I zoom all the way in.

Where are my feet taking me next?

What are the first steps I can take to fortify this fleeting resolve?

If I don’t build substance on to the ideas bouncing around in my head, I’m going to drink by default. Maybe not today, but it’s coming for me because addiction now has the weight of momentum and the attraction of my past desires.

I’ve got to get in the business of forging new desires. I’ve got to get busy living. I’ve got to focus my heart and mind on things above now that I’ve found others who have recovered.

There is a way out, but it must be walked.

God, help me trudge ahead with others.
