New Walk
led by grace

TRUTH
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
Galatians 5:16
REFLECTION
Everybody wants somebody else to change, and we’re no different.
It matters little how devastating my own defects of character have become. I can still find fault in my fellows far quickly and with little effort.
This is common. And unfortunate. I could have cleaned up sooner if I’d focused a tenth of that critique toward myself.
Usually, we have a desire to change, but it’s just not angry enough. We still just want to feel different. We still want the transformational effects of rebirth without the blood and stink it will take.
The beginning of reformation is in the realization of our failure. The desire to change must grow larger than our desire for feeling good.
The life I was living for myself should make me mad. It should irritate me that I keep doing the same things expecting different results. I ought to be frustrated.
But if it stops there, it’s just fuel for the spiral down.
The last piece of frustration is the hardest to swallow. Somehow, I think I can save myself. But I can’t.
Despite promises I make and break even though I sincerely meant them, I continue walking away from the solution.
In the end, surrender is the only way out.
Some of us surrender to ourselves and get as comfortable as we can for the ride down.
Some of us surrender to the Spirit and begin bracing ourselves for the unknown.
God, I want the unknown.
