Faith to live by

TRUTH

Hear me, Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy.

Psalms‬ ‭86‬:‭1‬

REFLECTION

There’s a just right amount of hopelessness that is good to have when we decide to change.

All we need to do to get a little bit more of it is to look back at all the other times we’ve already made this choice and failed.

We keep coming back to the starting line but never really get anywhere.

What are we missing? Why do we wind up right back at the beginning with a seemingly perfect amount of willingness to go to any lengths for relief?

I think we just want to go from poor and needy to carefree and rejoicing without any of the gentle and lowly.

We are hopeless apart from His help, but we usually want to define at least some of the terms of that assistance.

I’ll give Him such and such, and He should give me this and that.

I pray in the mornings and evening, and He puts me on the team, removes my temptations, shows me His well and offers leniency when I stray a bit.

Works-based, watered down half-truths at best.

The problem with my hopelessness is that it’s not big enough.

I’m too narrow-minded to see how depraved my heart truly is.

I’m too self-centered to realize how self-consumed I truly am.

I’m too distracted to slow down long enough for my eyes to start to open.

The best first miracle is for God to allow us to see how big the chasm is between us and Him.

We got close to death on our own, and we thought that arresting this progression would be a hurdle in our life to vault over with maybe some friendly help.

But in order to live, we have to jump the Grand Canyon.

We ought to be scared because it isn’t possible.

God, give me the courage to give you my life.
