Echo Chamber

truth in silence

TRUTH

Be still, and know that I am God

Psalm 46:10

REFLECTION

My head is a noisy place.

It’s a constant barrage of thoughts, worries, and what-ifs. It’s an echo chamber of self-doubt.

For years, I tried to drown out the noise. I used drugs, alcohol, anything I could get my hands on to silence the voices. But it didn’t work. The noise would always come back, louder than ever.

Then, I got sober. And the noise…it was still there. Maybe even louder.

What I didn’t realize was that the noise wasn’t the problem. The problem was that I was afraid of the silence. I was too busy rushing from one thing to the next.

In the silence, though, there’s truth. In the stillness, God.

The steps point us towards this stillness too.

Step Eleven—prayer and meditation—is all about cultivating a connection with that still, small voice within. It’s about learning to listen instead of constantly talking.

It’s not easy. My mind still races. Thoughts still try to pull me away. But I’m learning to recognize the noise for what it is: a distraction. A way to avoid facing the truth about myself.

The truth is, I’m not in control. I never was. And that’s okay. Because in the silence, I find a strength that I never knew I had. I find a peace that surpasses all understanding. I find God.

It’s in the quiet places, in the moments of stillness, that I hear the whispers of grace.

God, help me find you in the silence today.
