Husked and Broken

I am corroded

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

James‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬

Oh how we love to pontificate as though we had stumbled upon something novel.

Much of sober living involves the discovery of how to coexist appropriately with other human beings. What others do by default—the selfless caring for others—we seek affirmation and credit for figuring out.

It’s no wonder that we need more than ever to come to the end of ourselves and reach out for the wisdom that comes from God.

We are infants.

But there’s good news—infants abound. In fact, they make the best soil for new beginnings.

Acknowledging that we know nothing and imploring for wisdom become the themes of each new day.

As I’m able to put little bits of myself aside, I realize that most of what I thought was me was actually a facade built up around me—insulating my soul from the light I really needed.

I am a corroded shell, and I need to be broken, husked and cleaned.

God, give me the wisdom to approach today with grace and love.
