TRUTH
Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
James 1:21
REFLECTION
Addiction whittled away the fullness of life before it had much of a chance to blossom.
No matter when we began our real drinking, it carved away our lives not by creating new space but by invading our other habits, routines, relationships and motivations.
It latched on and burrowed in.
If we are serious about this new prospect of life, we’d better plant it in the core of our lives if we’re going to have a chance.
We quickly forget this is a life-or-death prospect.
We are constantly barraged by the minimization of alcohol and drugs and the vices that peek from the edges of society.
Rest assured, if we don’t replace these vices with something that can fill the void, it’s a matter of time until we return to them.
It doesn’t matter how far down we’ve fallen. It doesn’t matter how hopeless we were before sobering.
The insanity will return if left unchecked.
Thankfully, we need only receive help.
It’s not even about effort. It’s about willingness.
It’ll take work, but it begins with a rightness and a soundness of mind.
It begins by killing my ego, killing my self-sufficiency.
It begins by asking God for help. It comes to fruition by accepting God for help.
God, please help.
