Light Leaks
cracks in the wall
TRUTH
My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.
2 Corinthians 12:9
REFLECTION
We build walls. We all do.
To protect ourselves from hurt, from pain, from vulnerability. We think they keep us safe. But they also keep us trapped.
For addicts, those walls are often particularly high, particularly thick. We build them out of shame, out of fear, out of a desperate desire to control everything.
We think that if we can just keep everything out, we’ll be okay.
But they’re not as strong as we think. They have cracks. Weak spots. Places where the light can get in.
Grace being sufficient and power being made perfect in weakness is a radical idea. It means that our brokenness, our flaws, our imperfections, aren’t a liability. They’re an opportunity. An opportunity for God’s power to shine through.
This is unfortunate. Because it doesn’t promise the absence of pain but rather the necessity of walking through it.
The first step is about hitting bottom, about realizing that our walls aren’t strong enough to hold back the tide.
But that’s not the end of the story. It’s just the beginning. Because when the light gets in, it scratches away at our defiance.
That’s when grace can flow. That’s when real healing can begin.
God, help me to embrace my weakness so that your power can shine through.
