TRUTH

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs‬ ‭1‬:‭7

REFLECTION

It’s easier to run blindly by than to stop and ask for directions.

For most of our addiction, we are in motion and unwilling to simply listen.

Convinced we either don’t need or won’t benefit from the help that is offered, we plummet down while not recognizing the eternal trajectory.

I did. Maybe I still do sometimes.

Sobriety doesn’t cure the dangerous dissociation from truth and wisdom.

It allows for choice, but we can easily choose wrong far into our new lives.

Momentum will kill a sober person as easily as a drunk one.

I believe the single biggest tool to right living is the willingness to stop and listen.

The insincerity we bring to matters of God will stunt our spiritual growth.

Fear of Him is the next logical step in becoming right sized in our minds and in this world. It is simply the admittance of His hugeness and our frailty.

For the addict, this is a quiet crucifixion of the parts of us that cling to the illusion of control.

It hurts to choose to believe we aren’t supreme. But it’s the first step into the daylight of reality.

God, help me live in the truth no matter how it hurts my feelings.
