Plain Sight

the obvious choice

TRUTH

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Matthew 11:30

REFLECTION

Easy isn’t the word that comes to mind when you’re staring down the barrel of another relapse.

But maybe we’re looking at it wrong.

We are experts at making things complicated. We can turn a simple suggestion into a full-blown conspiracy theory.

We can convince ourselves that one more drink, one more time, will finally be the thing that fixes everything. It's twisted.

But what if the yoke, the burden of surrender, is lighter than the crushing weight of our self-will?

We spend years trying to control the uncontrollable. We wrestle with demons of our own making, convinced that we can somehow win.

We exhaust every option, every scheme, every manipulation, just to avoid admitting the obvious: we’re powerless.

And then, when we’re finally broken, when we’ve hit the bottom we never thought we’d reach, we hear those words: “My yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

The solution was right there all along.

Surrender. Let go. Trust. It’s not about white knuckling our way to sobriety. It’s about letting go of the wheel.

The steps aren’t some mystical formula or complicated ritual. They’re a path to freedom, a way to trade our heavy burdens for a lighter yoke. It’s not always comfortable. It requires honesty, humility, and a willingness to change.

But compared to the alternative, it can be…easy.

God, help me choose the path of surrender today.
