TRUTH

For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them.

Proverbs‬ ‭1‬:‭32

REFLECTION

I never thought of myself as lazy.

Till I looked back.

My track record betrays me.

To this day, the perceived easier way is constantly whispering to me.

This is not to say that easier is always bad. But often, ease paves the pathway to mediocrity.

It certainly makes it easier for me to compromise my beliefs, my ethics, and my capacity for truth.

I noticed this and swung hard in the other direction a couple years into my recovery journey.

I was a volatile combination of willingness, idealism and immaturity.

My motto became, “crucify complacency”.

To be honest, I still kind of like that.

But I adopted a mentality of constant motion without regard to directing it or allowing it to be guided by wisdom.

I was taking healthy steps, learning how to live as a somewhat responsible adult, and trying to help out the next person in recovery.

But then I was spinning my wheels in constant search of the next thing to busy myself with.

I was self-directing still in a lot of my life. I was fueled by the benefits of sobering up without nurturing the best parts of my newfound life.

Eventually, though, I needed the deeper sustenance from God.

I needed quiet time to direct my days’ actions.

I needed to pause more and react less.

God, help me keep my priorities in the right order.
