Ravenous

sounds desperate

TRUTH

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Psalms‬ ‭46‬:‭1

REFLECTION

If you’re not desperate yet, you’re not paying attention.

I speak from experience, and I’m condemning myself as much as warning you.

How easily we slip into new, lazy habits when they fuel a self-centered tendency.

But how difficult it is to build one that brings life.

Is it just me?

I need the ravenous persistence of the dying to do the simplest things consistently.

I need to shake off the bonds of apathy that entangle me like kudzu of the soul.

Each day is an opportunity to walk forward, and it begins with the opportunity to pursue a God, an ideal, a way of life that was once a mystery.

The path has disclosed itself exactly to the extent that I’ve stepped out on to it. And God has unveiled a bit of himself exactly to the extent that I’ve been willing and able to bend my will toward His light.

That doesn’t have to be complicated.

A bit of quiet in the morning. A bit of scripture dwelt upon. A bit of prayer battled out.

Good things, permanent things, begin with the thick molasses of mortar that will harden over time.

God, sweeten my time with you.
