the reckless faith

TRUTH

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

Genesis‬ ‭1‬:‭1

REFLECTION

Coming up to breathe from the torrent of a few bad years of an addiction running rampant through the lives of innocent bystanders, recovery seems a bit much.

It’s a bit much to stop the train wreck we’ve become used to participating in.

It’s a bit much to slow our thoughts down enough to consider our options.

It’s a bit much to begin the arthritic process of healthy living.

It’s a bit much to begin thinking in terms of truths instead of shades of deceit.

It’s a bit much to think we may have to get help.

It’s a bit much to admit we have screwed up this badly.

It’s a bit much to look ourselves, or anyone, in the eyes

It’s a bit much to take the first measly yet overwhelming, simple yet difficult, monumental yet invisible steps of willingness toward change.

And then we get hit with the prospect that we are more screwed than we thought.

We can’t change even though we think we’re ready and willing.

God gets thrown in the mix.

And we flashback to Sunday school. Do we even believe any of this?

The real trouble is we think way too small.

How much better things would be if we threw worry out the window and adopted a faith as reckless as our addiction.

God, use my doubt to fan the flames of my faith.
