Re-enable...

the work that matters

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.

Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭23

REFLECTION

Switching my perspective off of myself and onto the eternal takes more than passive effort.

After cleaning up my act and beginning to sort out how to live somewhat responsibly, it becomes easy to drift into people pleasing once more.

Even with the best of intentions, I can find myself plowing through life looking for the approval of others and the satisfaction of myself. This is a small derivative from the life I’ve been trying to leave behind.

God’s seat fits no one and nothing else. I journey into perpetual dis-ease when I let other things become built up to try and take his place.

Sure, I’ve got to live in this world, broken though it may be. But I don’t have to behave as though I’m still defective and clueless.

I have been bought with a price, redeemed, all that. How then am I responding? Have I fallen back into the trap of self-appeasement? Or am I putting all my energy into honoring the grace that’s given me the freedom to do his will?

The step work of recovery requires a restructuring my habits, a realignment of my priorities, and a re-enabling of my conscience.

God, what is your will today? Help me simplify it to the next action I can take.
