Today’s Reflection

There’s nothing like a good nights sleep and getting to the next day. Especially after a rough one.

New sobriety is full of potholes and missteps. Even on good days when all is well, we can feel off the beam, agitated and discontent. Our emotions are not yet stable. Our feelings are out of whack with reality. Our senses are simultaneously heightened and misinformed.

We tumble through the ordinary course of a day from one mundane task to the next and the temptation to drink again can often begin whispering.

When this is conquered, the satisfaction of staying clean is often run over by the looming depression that accompanies a new way of life and the knowledge of all its realities.

Living in an illusion had its advantages. But if we are to receive the full benefits of living fully and being fully present, we must persevere. We must fix our eyes on what’s ahead and lock gazes with our God.

His provision has already paved a way into sobriety and opened doors that we may never have found.

During dark hours and days, a prayer for provision and direction can lead us forward long enough to get to tomorrow.

He is eternal but we are stuck with this mortal flesh, this temporal perspective, this wanton mind. We need to reboot. We need the fresh start of each new day to realign with our newfound purpose.

Heck, we need to realize we have a new purpose. Often our blindness to our own benefit to those around us is the chain that holds us back.

Am I living each day?

God, help me realign each morning.
