TRUTH
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
Psalm 19:14
TRIVIA
Bill Wilson had a profound spiritual experience, sometimes referred to as the "hot flash" or "spiritual awakening," while he was: |
REFLECTION
How often do I pause to consider my thoughts?
Aren’t they usually running amok, aimless, careless, unchecked?
Sure, I’ll tend to them in the moments of quiet that I allow myself, but through the vast majority of the day they roam dangerously free.
And it’s nearly that when you consider the time spent asleep.
Focus.
This is what I’m most in danger of screwing up.
This is the greatest threat to my thought life and spiritual wellbeing.
My lack of effort in focusing my thoughts nearly guarantees they will be filled with whatever the closest, easiest, most attractive thoughts are.
And those thoughts aren’t usually the greatest thoughts.
So what? Why all the fuss?
Because what I continually dwell on informs and coerces and leads me through my days.
This is the root of the root of the issue.
Addiction wants nothing more than a chance to breed.
And it needs nothing more than the germ of an idea.
And this starts with nothing more than absentmindedness. With dismissal. With minimization.
If I am to remain free, I must launch into action. I must guard what I expose myself to. I must realize that the problem of addiction centers in the mind.
I invite God into my life not as a one-time expense I can recoup with the benefits of living right, but as a daily commitment that can renew my heart, mind, body and spirit each day that I lean into His will for me.
God, screw my head on straight and forgive my missteps.
