Un-Align
a well-worn grave
TRUTH
But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.
James 1:6
REFLECTION
I believed for long time that this was a condemnation of doubt.
I’m screwed if it is because I continue to have and hold and practice doubt.
It keeps me aligned because I use my doubts to interrogate my beliefs rather than allow them to become my beliefs.
We can have deep rooted faith in things we do not fully understand.
We can have questions and disagreements without sacrificing underlying principles and core issues of faith.
The thing we are being instructed to ask for is wisdom.
And the belief we need is that we can receive and hold wisdom despite our past, despite our present, despite our age, condition, education, position, title, etc.
The warning is to not look around too much. Comparison provides a quick trip to unease and dissatisfaction.
Entitlement and resentment follow quickly.
And before you know it, we get thirsty again.
Better to open our eyes and hearts, to be grateful for a new chance in a new day, and to ask sincerely for the wisdom needed to get through it well.
After all, our real usefulness lies in helping the next person through the day we just finished.
God, give me wisdom to pay it forward.
