Unburdening
new realizations
TRUTH
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
Hebrews 12:1
REFLECTION
We carry much with us.
Regrets. Shame. Guilt. The weight of past mistakes, both big and small.
We drag these burdens behind us like a heavy, unwieldy chain. Each poor choice. Each relapse. Each day chained to a substance or an ideal.
It binds us, restricts our movement, and keeps us from fully embracing the freedom that's offered to us in recovery and through Christ.
Itβs tempting to think that freedom means paying off this debt myself. Earning my way back into good standing. Making amends so completely that the weight disappears.
But the truth is, the debt isn't ours to pay.
The unburdening isn't about us canceling what we owe through sheer will or effort. It's about how God, through His grace, has already paid the price.
He took the full weight of our sin.
Letting go, then, isn't about forgetting or ignoring the past.
It's about acknowledging it, learning from it, and then releasing its power over us.
It's about understanding that we are not defined by our mistakes but by God's love and forgiveness.
We can lay down the heavy chain of our past and walk forward, unburdened, into the new life that awaits us.
God, help me truly understand the depth of your grace; help me walk in the freedom You have already purchased for me.
